I am sitting here watching the voodoo game and the coach of new orleans has done ,I think, 6 or 7 onside kicks already in this game and none, and I mean none, have worked.

the onside kick is nice to have but it shouldnt be something you use all game Every time grand rapids gets the ball with 6 yards to go to score a touchdown.sometimes I really love this sport and sometimes it just seems like the xfl.

NO was chasing possessions the whole game. They NEEDED a stop. It's so much easier to stop teams from inside the 5 than it is from their own 5.

Besides, that game ultimately knocked New Orleans OUT of the playoffs, so I can't blame Coach Neu.

the only bad thing watching this game was how early the on-side kicks started for the online kicks.the first quarter.my post was actually with alot of time left in the 4th quarter

it just seems like alot of teams become a little too reliant on the on-side kick and it is great when it works but, god ,it didn't tonight.you are right about the playoffs and you could tell they were desperate out there and I dont fault the effort

,a shame for the voodoo not to have a chance to in their own hometown for the title ,but like you said in your column, they had some great breaks this year.

this wasn't a great team though

if the sabercats come through tonight I will have a good night.I liked what your column said about the cats,I just hope Georgia doesn't let it roll tonight.must win games are the worst to wager on like I found out tonight in N.O. but its true with all sports

Neu is notorious for doing that. Makes it tough to bet NO under the total.

Not only is NO trying to recover the kicks, but when you are losing, the idea is to have as many possessions left before the game ends as you can. Gives you a shot because the more possessions there are, the better chance you have of getting a stop or two and catching up. Kinda like adding time to the game clock but in a different way.

Did you notice that on three of those possessions NO had, three IN A ROW in fact (last 2 1H and first one 2H), NO got held to a FG after having a FD inside the NO 10. It truly can be easier to stop a team deep inside your territory IF that team cannot run. GR is one of those. NY is a classic example. They have real trouble running inside the 5.
